Journey Day 75 | PCT Day 75
6/30/85
Up from camp spot, we hike up Long Meadow. Then up into woods. Down to Virginia Creek via switchbacks. Lunch on an island with the creek rushing by. Eat lots of food on a rock with a dad-son foursome. Dads dragging, kids go off to fish.
Off again, we climb up, up. Several times falsely feel we’ve made the summit. Finally we make it to the top. But smell burning. It’s a fire, probably a forest fire. We climb up on rocks, look out across smoky mountains. Then down to Miller Lake. Mosquitoes on and off a factor. More on than off.
No bugfree spots. We settle on camp. Frisbee tossing, dinner eating. Relaxed by nice rocks, I read about John Muir. After more camp time, bear bag, then head over and crash on rocks. Other three in tents.
