Journey Day 455 | CDT Day 118
10/10/87
Immediately climbing, so we quickly shed morning clothing worn to combat freezing temperatures. Beautiful views off Sargents Mesa, but Carl and Laurie are really dragging. Leonard and I discuss alternatives. It's becoming more and more a drag. From the mesa, views back to Shavano, in all directions. We miss the turn-off, but find our way back to the trail.
Sunny ups and downs, good climbs along wooded divide. Pass horses, then a sleeping hunter, as I leave the others behind. Tricky trail to Razor Creek. I lose it in a meadow. Then a dry creek after 12 waterless miles. Luckily tanked up in the morning.
Eat dry lunch of goodies, etc. leave a note and hike a long divide hike, running down, but eventually hit the road, down to Lujan Creek, where I pitch and crash, thankful for water.
