Journey Day 351 | CDT Day 14
6/25/87
Two young bucks mill about our open-air accommodations at Indian Point Ranger Station, where park employee Heidi Froke lets us stay, even treats us to rice and burger skillet fry.
The day started with a dewed sleeping bag at 7:20 a.m., looking up at the Chinese Wall. A tortellini breakfast, then off with great views on a really hot, sunny day. Sunscreen from the start. A couple of short climbs, we meet our first humans since East Glacier. Short talk, then on in our opposite directions. Great views and surroundings until we head under forest cover and follow valley, with stream crossings, to guard station.
Uneventful hiking, heat the key obstacle. Eventually at station, where we end up staying after we decide on shorter route to Benchmark. Munch our own meal, talk with Heidi, eat her offering, more talk. I discover big heal blister, fix it up. Write Grama, talk Appalachian Trail with Adkinses, update journal. Tomorrow we head into town after seven nights out on the trail. Our longest two carries will be behind us!
