Journey Day 335 | AT Day 158
9/2/86
Good breakfast, courtesy of Michael P.’s reserves. Early start up to Rainbow Ledges, where we take a break and eat pudding with blueberries, while enjoying another great view of Katahdin, although clouded.
Meet a Nashua, N.H., couple who possibly know my brother from a health club. Catch up to Alfie, Skip pushing on to the Abol Bridge until we stop for a skinny dip in an emerald pool. From there, another nice hike up to the Hurd Brook Lean-to. Read farewell register entries from hikers I met along the way. Eat more, feasting and savoring the final miles a while at Hurd Brook. Quickly out to a road ending the 100-mile Wilderness with my moose hat hanging from my pack. A light rain provides a nice shower. Down across Abol Bridge, into the store for beers, etc. Get a campsite, meet other campers, blow about $60 in the store on a giant pig-out, drink too much. Into tent, ready to crash, but too full to sleep.
