Outside Doc Grant’s, Rangeley, Maine.

Meet a moose as I’m getting my morning water! Up early, push on past the Swift River Pond, South Pond, down to Maine 4. Quick hitch to Rangeley. Hit the post office, Red Onion where I drink despite rude people. Over to Doc’s where my old friend and PCT pal Keith Jones shows up. We drink, I eat my third meal.

I dash about town to get ready, then we decide to stay. Three in a room at the Saddleback Mountain Inn. More drinks, back to the room for TV, with Keith intent on hitting the trail.
