The Mahoosuc Notch was a different challenge.

More bogs and rain. Hike with Austin from Ga. over the Goose Eyes. Begin hiking the Mahoosuc Notch. Meet others as we complete this different kind of hike, over and under jumbles of boulders.

After a break, we climb up the rugged Mahoosuc Arm, then push down to Speck Pond and through to the shelter. Decide to stay. Talk with weekenders, MIT guys, a couple from Greensboro, N.C., that know Mike O’Tuel who I met  hiking the PCT in 1985.

Take a dip, eat a big meal and crash exhausted after the toughest hiking yet.
