Maine was the 14th state along the Appalachian Trail.

Hike out of Gorham, then catch a ride with an evangelist up the road. Hike onto the Peabody Brook Trail to Grant Falls, then bogs to a junction with the Appalachian Trail at Dream Lake before hiking on to Gentian Pond.

Talk with Maine surveyors, an Appalachian Mountain Club “expert,” before pushing on over Mt. Success. Rain starts and I’m slipping and falling on some rough hiking before hiking into Maine, the last of 14 states, in the rain. Hike more rough trail before dropping down to a crowded Carlo Col shelter. Austin Kennedy and a group from Outward Bound make for a crowded house with some short fuses.
