Boggy walks offered views of a different world.

Up from Bob Flanigan’s feeling the effects of Dartmouth parties. We scatter for breakfast, eat, check out the local stores, museums, work on my boots. Drink toasted almonds with Jack after checking out the campus carnival. Hike out, leaving Leonard in town. Hike through a bog, then uphill to the Velvet Rocks shelter. Long walk to water. Find Boater Bill and his family. Only two miles in two days. Back to the shelter. Jack shows up. We eat. A weird guy from Dartmouth who’s living in the shelter shows up. Plays his flute, then whimpers in his sleep all night.
