Journey Day 293 | AT Day 116
7/22/86
After awakening, I make calls. It's my mom's birthday. I learn my brother Bob is to be married, PCT pal Keith to join me in Maine and friend Dave has taken a job in solar power, leaving nukes. After a happy breakfast, Zarathustra takes off. Back in the room, we pack. Boater Bill and I hike up for a view off Deer Leap Cliffs, then hike through Gifford Woods State Park to Kent Pond, capping a very short day.
Check into my second nice lodging in as many days. Eat at the pond dock, as Jack, Leonard, Boater and Fly show up in canoes. Talk with other guests, then paddle out to an island. Swim around, then paddle back in, get out of the sun to update journal. Eat ice cream, wait for dinner, maybe a nap. Big dinner for $10. Read Thoreau, crash, glad to be in a bed.
