Journey Day 282 | AT Day 105
7/11/86
Uneventful morning hike up the ridge. Stop at Old Adams Road, meet Steve Abell, an Appalachian Mountain Club volunteer. We talk long. Then on up to Mt. Greylock and Bascom Lodge. We climb the tower, find Bill Goldstein, of Dallas Texas, Yale and Ralph Peak Hiker’s Cabin, where we met him and his brother in June. Laze on the view to North Adams. Pass out, awakened by yelling mom , kids and dogs. Talk with Bill Goldstein, head in, make calls, but no connections. Read registers, work in the kitchen for a meal. Pig out vegetarian, take in music night with dulcimer and hammer dulcimer by Jarrad, singing by tourists, naturalists and hikers. Toured down to a gross pavilion, can’t sleep there. Stumble around in the dark, finally crash in woods near the lodge. Rain moves me back under a pavilion in the early morning.
