Journey Day 276 | AT Day 99

A deer spotted along the Housatonic River on June 28, 1986.

6/28/86
Up in a drizzle, pack wet, push down to Stewart's Hollow and meet day hikers. Pass deer by Housatonic River, meet some older hikers from Chardon, OH. We talk, then I hike on to Cornwall Bridge, get my mail and eat brownies in a care package. Eat a sub, etc., update my journal and prepare for the final push to Dalton. Climb away from the town up a creek. Meet pretty blonde woman and guy, another couple, then Roy Hunt and Collins Chew of the Appalachian Trail Conference. Hike on with bad weather pressing, some on roads. Then back up on a ridge, stopping at lean-to near a road and overlook on a Saturday night. I have trouble finding water pump, until another visitor directs me. I eat, write a letter to my PCT pal, Keith Jones, then crash on dirt floor of shelter.
