Journey Day 277 | AT Day 100

A creek along the trail in Connecticut.

6/29/86

Push through Mohawk State Park, past numerous shelters. Hike a road, then meet youngsters and parents tired of a one-day hike as I read on a long break. Pine Knoll is as bad as they said it would be, so I hike on over Barrack Mountain expecting a meal at U.S. 7 crossing, but it’s just closing as I get there. Hike on to another crossing of the Housatonic, take a break with a fine Shepard dog.

A Shepard dog joined me along the Housatonic River.

Then up roads to Limestone Springs, where I meet Liz Mathien, a roving caretaker from Chicago. We talk, I eat until bugs push us into our tents. It rains hard during the night.
