Journey Day 275 | AT Day 98

Pausing to pose atop Connecticut.

6/27/86

Hike to Wiley Shelter and find a comic strip I inspired, “The Legend of Sugar Bear,” drawn by Eric Gallandt, another thru-hiker. From here I hike into Connecticut, down to a river crossing at the Housatonic, back onto road, over Schaghticoke Mountain, pass a bad kids group, down hot ridges to Mt. Algo campground.

Meet Steve Veh, 28, a fellow journalist from Lyndhurst, OH. who worked for  Taylor Communications in Lewisville (I worked for Taylor in Plano, TX). He now works at the Danbury paper, is on an overnight hike. We talk, eat, I push on a short distance, crash on a ridge in the rain.
