Journey Day 257 | AT Day 80

Hiking the Cumberland Valley roadwalk in 1986.

6/9/86

Up for the roadwalk, I start first, checking out the farms and fishermen along the way, but John Boone and others from the shelter catch up to me. We walk road through Churchtown, past Musser’s Fruit Farm. It’s not too hot on my sore blister.

We stop, but no Ice Cream Lady at home, so we push on to the Why Not Truck Stop for all-you-can eat meal. I do my best to eat everything available, thanks to my Visa, and sign the trail register.

More roads lead to a creek, down a short trail, then back on roads, dogs nearly get a sticking from me. Pass a pretty girl, finally off the road, climb back, pass where the Big Blue Trail comes back into the A.T., to Darlington Shelter for a break. Then hike through fields, climb, descend to shelter and water. Meet Shutterbug, Geoff Hardies from Wadsworth, OH, another new face. We talk about Ohio, the trail and crash.
