Trail switchbacks beyond a church social we attended in Linden, Virginia.

Bob hikes out, then Sonja also heads North. I linger, finally push on down across the road, high grass with ticks, down another ridge to Linden. Get mail, drink Gatorade, read, organize. Join locals at a church dinner. Hike out, pass trail overseer on the road. After a talk, hike back onto the trail, up through pastures to Manassas Gap Shelter. Meet John Miller, Potomac Appalachian Trail Club member, and a hiker known as Florida Fred who talks all night, along with Bobalot and his girlfriend. Too hot, bugs are biting. Bad sleep.
