Journey Day 247 | AT Day 70
5/30/86
Up from shelter, hike through woods, pasta snake in a log to Elkwallow. Eat, talk with father and son hiking south. Climb up again, past deer and other fauna, push on out of the Shenandoahs. See more deer, wild turkeys. Bid Horst farewell at Gravel Springs, push out of the park down a road. Thunderclaps get nearer, just make a shelter as a storm hits. Sonja, a German beauty, and I talk. I take two trips to find water. Eat falafel, dinner, talk more. She’s the personification of Inga or Greta, the fictional Nordic duo we’d concocted for motivation and entertainment. Crashing when we notice a bouncing light approaching. It’s “Sir Bobalot” Davis from Brecksville, OH, a suburb near my hometown, Parma, OH. We talk late, then crash.
