Up with the birds, hiked from Bearfence Mountain Shelter, up Big Mt. Nice views, hike over to Big Meadows area. Blackrock view, talk with tourists from southern Ohio. Just miss breakfast time, Angry, hike on. Hot hiking. Almost sun fried, stop for lunch at Skylands, freak out tourists,  lodge employees, call ahead to post office. Push on, good view, but still HOT. Again too hot, stop; on rock near Pinnacles, then at picnic ground for shave, rest. Pass day use cabin, cross Thornton Gap, passing hiking trio of weirdos. and another German hiker heading south. Across road, up to Pass Mountain Shelter, with Horst Michael Edig, “The Only One, ” who I hadn’t seen since Fontana Dam at the south end of the Smokies. It’s dark as I eat, unable to hang food right, crash to NBA Playoffs on solar radio.
