Up early, out after Michael P. Down to the road, back up across Highcock Knob. No rain, but still damp. Catch Michael P. at Marble Springs. Hike together to Matt’s Creek Shelter. Long break, update. Hike on with the Blues Brothers, two young brothers from suburban D.C. Cross James River, climb a short way to John’s Hollow Shelter. Mark Carroll, who’s been hiking with the Blues Brothers, shows up, then Jack and Michael P., who’ve walked into Big Island for food and treats. Talk, then crash.
