My hiking mate regaled me with tales of gluttony.

Late start, a sunny day. Pass Pond Mountain Shelter, hike across Virginia 42. Jack bummed there’s no store. I decide to hike on. Uphill. Take a break. Repeatedly break, seems to take forever. Pass on Sarver’s Cabin, down to Niday Shelter. Get water, discourage VPI gang after getting orangy apple juice. Munching when  Jack shows near dark. Enjoy some of his goodies, hear his tale of gluttony. Crash.
