Up slow, clean hostel, eat, laze in the yard. Update, prepare to return to the trail. Morning turns to afternoon. Trim, take in rays, the day runs away. Hike out at 4 p.m., down through Pearisburg, out onto highway, down to divided access highway, past a plant, up a climb.

Four miles of climbing take us to a spot near a spring. Jack and I crash outside despite lightning. Sleeping, but awake as rain hits. Pitch tents rapidly, back to sleep as rain patters on tent.
