Journey Day 183 | AT Day 6

The Appalachian Trail sometimes followed fence lines.

Up early, Jack and I follow Dave Blair and Bosun out. From Tray, hike on to Sassafras Gap. Stop with MSU guys, a hiker named James. They hike on, we follow, but they’ve stopped later after water. Jack passes as we head for Dick’s Creek Gap. Intense downhills continue to hurt knees.

At Dick’s Creek Gap, MSUers and James head into Hiawasee for food. Jack and I take a long break. I’d stopped uphill at a stream in shade.

Then we hike, up, down, up to Plum Orchard Gap. Stop with Dave and Bosun, camp, party and crash to tunes from my solar radio.
