Journey Day 147 | PCT Day 147

Oregon was at my back, Washington ahead.

9/10/85

Up early, I talk with Curt and we set to head into Portland. Early A.M. hot drinks, relax. Get mail. Talk with Keith. Jeff leaves and Curt and I leave on Greyhound in afternoon for Portland. Four backpacking stores in Portland, none with my tent pole. Running around Portland to stores, sweating in rain pants.

John Lund, Curt’s friend, drives me out to REI, beating rush hour traffic. Get poles, back to Elmer’s. Munch great omelet. Drink martinis, call Sandi.

I’m uneasy in Portland as September wastes away. Catch last bus to Cascade Locks. Crash in shelter.
