Journey Day 148 | PCT Day 148
9/11/85
Up early again, I make calls, take care of mail. Takes too long. Finally leave and cross bridge into Washington. Feels great.
Hike busy road into Stevenson. Munch at an all-u-can eat place after find out the day of the week. After too much food, happy about weight, I hike out of town. Scary roadwalk. Small berm, logging trucks off road. Good views of the Columbia gorge.
Eventually off this racetrack. Into Carson, talk with a guy by a bar, but walk on. Meet women, then hike road to campground.
Into the darkness. Meet Detus Perry, 73 years young. He screeches an old Rambler to a halt by me. We talk too long. He’s seen Sasquatch 12 times? He talks of climbing in lava tubes.
Leave his company, hike until too sleepy. Crash off side of the road. Forced to raise my tent in the dark.
