8/19/85

Up, but back to sleep after bathroom break. After nap, up to update, eat. Drizzle drives me back into tent. Finally out of camp. Walk past hosts. I’m an outlaw camper. Find spur trail to up to Four Mile Lake. Nice, big lake. Take quick break, then hike on. Find day  hiking boys, campers near Woodpecker Lake.

Hike hard into Sky Lakes Basin. Of 30-plus miles from Dead Indian Highway to Devils Peak, I’m on the PCT about six miles. Can’t decide where to stop. Tired, I stop at Trapper Lake, which the book calls Horseshoe Lake.

Can’t find anywhere to camp so end up using trail as camp. Pitch tent, cook with lake water. Crash. Dewy night means wet tent in the morning. Rocks make for hard sleeping.
