Up, wet and cold outside. Eat as deer comes out of woods, studies me, eventually heads back into woods, but makes sounds lady ranger later tells me are her expression of unhappiness.

Climb out of basin seems too long. Up near Snow Lake PCT reunion, find lady ranger on rocks. Nice in the morning!! We talk, but I’m to be into hiking, so I go on. Head for Stuart Falls on her suggestion. Down I drop. Get water, take break.

Meet two women backpacking, then rangers preparing water bar. Big annual pow-wow that weekend, so they’re tidying up.

At Ranger Spring trail, meet two older men hiking the PCT in sections. They think I’ll be seeing snow. Who can tell? Push on across small portion of Oregon Desert, actually a forest. Hit falls trail, quickly down. Get water. Several fords through lush country.

Come to campsite. Regale group from First Baptist Church of Coos Bay with stories. One guy fixes my stove. Crash after eating past dark.
