Journey Day 67 | PCT Day 67
6/22/85
Up, we hike down to lakes and farther down along Bear Creek, which I fall off a log into.
After more descent, we climb up a rough grade to Bear Ridge, where we break and I write this journal entry.
Note: We’ve been seeing more and more people on this trail, supposedly the most overused in the country. Yesterday on a grade, I talked to them all. But today early on descents, I was quickly courteous and then on my way.
We’re aiming for Fish Creek Hot Springs, Red’s Meadow and Tuolumne Meadows. Have nine miles by break. Looking to a big day so it will be easy to break long at the hot springs.
On 53 switchbacks down, I feel pain in my ankle. Trying to ignore it, we drop across Mono Creek, find a note from Jeff. He’s off to the resort, too late for a food drop. Will we ever see him again?
Up again, toward Silver Pass we go. My ankle impedes my progress. We’re through more rocks, switchbacks with mountains all around. Decide to stop at spot next to Mono Creek’s North Fork. Loud water crashes next to us as we crash. I soak my ankle, wash socks.
