Journey Day 478 | CDT Day 141
11/2/87
Despite my late night, I'm up for breakfast, eating with the caretaker Farmers, from Williamstown, Mass., among others. After breakfast, I investigate further resupply. The office secretary suggesting the dining hall. I get a private viewing of anthropology exhibits, paleontology room in progress at the museum, talk with community programmer Aubrey Owen.
Back with granola arranged, enjoy lunch talking with Willie Lucero, another CDT explorer, after meal with workers.
Read, then nap back at room. Contact Mom, Sandi Howell, who's to pick me up around Grants. Enjoy dinner alone due to lateness, but Tim Smith of North Carolina joins me. We discuss gear, backpacking. He and his wife Sue have moved here permanently after meeting at this magical place. Long talk, they encourage me to stay on. We head to their trailer for more talk, one beer that makes me sick. O.J. the high desert farm researcher joins us. We talk of his projects to benefit the starving. We talk books, etc., politics. At midnight, we disperse, I try to read, but fatigue puts me to sleep. What an amazing place!
