Journey Day 470 | CDT Day 133
We picked up Carl Ownby, pushing a bike up the road.
10/25/87
Ride down to Chama with the Bramwells, headed to see Gary in Santa Fe. Pass on potential ride to Odessa next door, pulling down the highway with the family when I spot an older man weighed down with a backpack pushing a bike up the road. I realize it's Carl, my hiking partner. Go back, he takes a ride in back. We stop for a brand license for stock going to Santa Fe.
Then down to Chama, crossing Divide and entering the final state of our Continental Divide hike in a truck. Into town, say goodbye to Bramwells. Shop, take room at a recently refurbished hotel at T intersection, settle in and watch football.
Hiking partners Leonard and Laurie come in. We talk. It's their six-month anniversary. They leave, watch more football, feeling better. DQ special for dinner. Buy Leonard and Laurie pops to toast the occasion. Back for 7th game in the World Series. Twins the new kids on the winners' block. Call Mom, have a long talk. Later feeling bad again, cramps, etc. resume after false hope of return to solid stools.
