Journey Day 469 | CDT Day 132
10/24/87
Feeling bad. Up to snowy, icy tent. Put it all on my pack, push down slippery trail, obscure in places. Lose, find, etc. Pass cabin remains, cross creeks in overcast. Break at one crossing, force more eating. Leave waistbelt unfastened as hike down to road, past unoccupied camps to Astraddle A Saddle Camp, where Faye Bramwell, a Houston woman and her kids await return of the men in their group. Talk, they agree to carry me out.
Sprinkles, clouds looking nasty on the Divide. Men return, packing with Floyd, father of outfitter Gary Bramwell who's on a movie set in Santa Fe. His credits include Cowboys and Silverado. Catch a ride out with them, they drop me at a hotel in the rain. I retire to my room to watch the 6th World Series game, eat much. But intense cramps, fatigue, diarrhea persist. I last through Saturday night before crashing.
