Journey Day 462 | CDT Day 125
10/17/87
Up over pass in snow, some difficulty finding the trail. Relative cross country down the flank of the Divide, past Cataract Lake to Pale Creek, which I follow down to Beartown Road, sun melting the trail's snow into mud. One muddy break along the way.
Break after the road intersection to Beartown, sunny, but windy. Two hunters pull up. Season back on a day earlier than I thought or it's a day later than I thought. They say there are no other hunters out. I follow the road, pack trails, up past several camps. Talk with a Denver hunter, put on my orange vest, push up to the trail, a stock driveway, which is by a sign into the Weminuche Wilderness. Get water, camp thankfully on dry ground. Hunters pull up in the night, giving me a false start on the next day.
