Journey Day 444 | CDT Day 107
9/29/87
Up early to freezing hands, frozen water, climb to Uneva Pass: good views back to the Gore Range, Ten Mile Range. Spot hawk with illuminated wings. Sun comes out, excellent hike through woods after climb to pass through basin.
Hike hard to make Cooper Mountain, seeing it and the Ten-Mile Range behind it. Drop across highway to development. Bummed by prefab look, coldness of inhabitants. Get mail, friendliness from post master, but no one knows where the Colorado Trail starts. No Leonard, Laurie or Carl. Excellent care package from Mom. No luck at sports store, get water from grocery, hike to stables per Silverthorne ranger's instructions.
Luckily girl outfitter leaving, she knows where the trail is, though unsure if it goes to Twin Lakes. Tells me the way to the trail. Up ski lift road, spot first marker. Follow up Guller Creek, eventually spot nice spot across creek on jutting area. Pitch, cut finger badly on ham can, eat cold, wrap finger, crash to creek symphony again.
