Journey Day 436 | CDT Day 99

Bruce Lahman near Arapaho Pass, 1987.

9/21/87

No water or trash cans. We take water from dormant dude ranch, leave beer bottles, then hike past trash can at trailhead. Talk with host at Monarch Lake, then follow another Arapaho Creek upstream, talking, checking out tracks, sights, walking slowly.

Excellent talk, a bit slow pace. We keep going up, eventually break out below ridge. We climb again, Bruce stumbling tired. But soon we're at Caribou Lake below the pass with beautiful view (from Arapaho National Forest map picture). Eat three courses, plus pudding, crash as cold, fatigue, wins again.
