Journey Day 421 | CDT Day 84

Fall coming to the Continental Divide, 1987.

9/6/87

Up, but not at 'em, we begin Labor Day with a breakfast buffet supreme at the Blake House. First I have a long talk with Richard Alvarado, always good, especially when I hear he's headed for San Antonio. Get to know Blake House operators, end up dying on the grass outside, then I lead the group to final chores. Back under trees, we rebuff owner's offer for bread, place to camp.

Eventually hike out of town, out road into a canyon. More high desert, we make several miscues, but eventually find our way after climbing a ridge too soon.

Dry creek, so push to camp with aspens and Chicken Pete Spring. Crash as darkness hits. Rain interrupts our slumber, as we scurry to put on flies.
