Journey Day 372 | CDT Day 35
7/16/87
A 360 kind of change from yesterday. It started early and below freezing, with a brisk wind over my spot on a small island on the edge of Storm Lake.
I even put the fly on to stop the wind, so I could eat my breakfast more comfortably. The others moved about at their spots across the way. Eventually they made their ways over as I was nearly ready.
Hiked in shade around to the ridge, up to Goat Pass, and began the climb that left us with excellent views in the sun. At the end of a precarious hike across a trail perched on the side of a talus slope, we climb above 9,400 feet before descending across Goat Flats.
Take a good break on a saddle before descending off ridge to Page and Flower lakes. After break there, we climb again to Rainbow Pass, where we enjoy views ahead and back to the Flint Range, which we've seen for weeks, but never hiked in. Also lunch and a lazy break.
Down we go again, back into the forest. Taking a break after passing two young girls in a Wilderness Ventures group from Jackson Hole. Meet a leader, talk, drink water. Then on looking for a campsite. No go, but find others and search out spring.
Snowseal, cook, talk with Ed. Eat dinner plus pancakes. Finish pitching tent, position gear, then into tent to update. Next I'll read or write a letter.
