Journey Day 358 | CDT Day 21
7/2/87
Up to power tools, motors in park, as rodeo is set up for July 4th weekend. Hot chocolate, thanks to Bear Kavanaugh. Pack up, hike to cafe with Kavanaughs.
Chauffeur too prompt, I eat anyway. Adkinses have to go back to room for packs anyway, also to the store. Finally, we're off, say goodbyes to Kavanaughs, Mr Dey who's also at the post office. Then up, trouble finding pass, our ride leaves us.
After several false starts, up draw, steeply up ridge. Lose others on high ridge, eventually decide to go ahead and find them. Onward along vague trails, if any. Very rough going, but great vistas. Rain threatening, lightning, fear, so we end up in the woods. Then out after a break.
Woods road steep. Think we're on track, but abandon road to bushwhack. Hopelessly confused, we end up heading for road, finally down at water (Willow Creek). After Mexican meal with tea, back to work. Thumb up road, catch ride with first vehicle, a truck which takes us to the pass, about four miles away. Were we ever on the right trail?
Lose Leonard briefly, decide to tent off road when he shows. Rain starts, but like before, little wetness comes of it. Tent up, I'm inside, updating and ready for bed.
