Journey Day 304 | AT Day 127
8/2/86
Out of the shelter as the camp sleeps, I hike back up to Guyot Ridge in the clouds. I hike down to the Zealand Falls Hut. Few views, more tough downhill hiking on wet rocks. Meet Andy from the Lake of the Clouds Hut, in a hammock. Hang out on the porch of the hut in the sun. Eat, laze, down to Zealand Falls.
On down the trail, an excellent, sunny hike on an old railroad grade on Whitehall Mountain. Neat views toward Corrigan Mountain, up at the cliffs. Check out the popular Thoreau Falls, hike past other hikers down a boggy trail to Ethan Pond, which has been swollen by rains. I take a break featuring a stove fire accident. I leave after my meal, head down to Crawford Notch.
Climb back up, meeting weekenders Chris and John. We break on the first viewpoint. Great views of the Willey Range, Guyot in the background. Hike on up cliffs. Stop and camp in wooded spot, finding deer scat later as I raise my tent. Eat, crash.
