Huts were welcome stops in the White Mountains.

Up early thanks to noise from Maine group’s camp, talk more with Sally the caretaker, hike out in a haze up to Franconia Ridge. Foggy walking between Lincoln and and Lafayette. Meet hikers out despite bad weather, absence of views. Rocky ups and down into the trees.
Pass a pond, hike up Mt. Garfield. Talk with caretaker at Garfield Shelter and Camp, push on to the Galehead Hut, where I make conversation and buy bread, get free brownie and Oreos from the talk with hut crew. Rough climb up the South Twin, then down the ridge to Mt. Guyot in the clouds. Talk with other campers, including female phys. ed. teachers from Mass., then crash.
