From the Appalachian Trail to the valley below.

Up early from shelter where I itched all night. Eat, leave young hikers and Andy, push into Maryland. Hike early miles, break at Antietam Creek Shelter, on up climb of Snow Mountain. Enjoyable, make lookout trail, drop pack, hike up to lookout tower. Nice views off the top. Take a break, nap on the stairs.

D.C. area psychotherapists join me on top. They share their lunch. But I have to go on, so down the mountain I go. It seems to take too long, but finally at Route 233. Cross, go up the wrong way. It begins raining, then stops long enough for me to meet a ranger. Hike the right way past a closed pool, bivouac in a brick shelter, eat and rest. Push up the hill in a drizzle, pass a hunters camp, hit shelters, drop gear and crash.
