Brown Dog peers off Bears Den Rocks.

Up early leave Bobalot who heads into Harpers Ferry. Dave Blair, Jim Roy Sumney and his dog, B.D., and I check out the view at Bears Den Rocks. Hike on, the climb from road is hot. Take a break. Hiking slow, eating at breaks, lose others, hike down to the Blackburn Center. Caretaker Gregg is crashed on a couch from  “bad fish.” We talk, his co-caretaker, Zeb, comes down and we all rap. Beer, more talk, to the store for a 12-pack, buns. We cook and eat the hiking club’s hot dogs and others’ condiments. Read the Washington Post ( where I would wind up working after the hike). Move to the coach house as Zeb and Gregg hike down to their cabin. Prepare for Harpers Ferry, update journal, crash.
