Journey Day 243 | AT Day 66

A week of diversions ended with me back on the trail.

5/26/86

Up early, I catch a ride back to the A.T. from a guy in line for the shower. Ride back, sleeping on and off. Dropped off at a Ho Jo’s, call Mom’s phone machine, then head back onto the trail, actually the Skyline Drive to an entrance station where I register for Shenandoah National Park. A nice lady ranger gives me the customary preview. I hike up onto the trail, feeling tired and symptoms from a sinus headache and indigestion after a Burger King stop.

Cross road, meet two guys hiking a section of the trail, talk, then up a ridge topped by radio towers.  Nice views, then on to the Calf Mountain Shelter, where I meet a through hiker named Austin Kennedy and Buford, a friend joining him for a section. Crash…
