Up early, finish climb out, up to Chectoah Bald, pass two old gents finishing the A.T., an old day hiker with a dog and a pretty girl with chicken. Down to Stecoah Bald, back up. Rain sprinkles, tough climb up seems to never end. N.C. trails poorly maintained. Stop on rocks near Cody Gap.

Steve from Massachusetts catches and passes me as Jack catches up. Steve’s dad is with General Electric. Settle for Cody Gap, rather than Cable Gap. Bad campsites, bad water. Crash to tunes.
