Journey Day 187 | AT Day 10

Enjoying the view from a bald North Carolina mountain.

From campsite, earliest start gets us down to Barrington Gap, up balds, to a break on the last, Wesser Bald. Bugs drive us on, I turn my ankle again as did half up Wayah Bald. Endless hike down, Stop, fall, bitch ups and downs, mostly the tough downhills.  Catch Jack at the Jump Up.

Then more down. Catch him again, drink blessed beer, celebrate at rush of finishing the first section. Jack kicked ass!

We hike on down, find David. Amazing, big reunion, get resupply boxes, eat giant meal, shower for the first time in 10 days. Update as best I can.

The Nantahala Outdoor Center in Wesser bustles with the U.S. kayak team. others enjoying the activities. We walk about in culture shock.

So far, a tough go, but we’re two days ahead of schedule. Body willing, it’ll be off again after a much-deserved day off.
