Hunters offered me brief respite from the hazy way through Washington.

9/15/85

Eat dinner for breakfast. Late start as rigors, weather wearing me out.   I’ve been wet since the Three Sisters Wilderness.

Hike to Lava Springs. End long break but two Seattle residents lengthen it. Finally back on the trail, I push, catch jeep-road trail. Apparently had walked off it.

Disputed Yakima Indian land. Meet jeep hunters after long, winding climb. They take me to their camp. Treat me to real food. No tent pole, but they show me back to trail. Jim “Mako” Daniel promises me lodging in Seattle.

Try to make miles, but crash at pond past Coleman weedpatch.  Wild ridge, but overcast. Crash through a dry night.
