8/28/85

Up for shower, eat rolls, drink milk in cold of early morning. Werners up, we head to store, coffee, warmth. Settle travelers check problem easily, a great relief.

Letters, talk, warm up. Back to camp, big breakfast planned. I sit and write and wait for J.L.

After arising early, I catch a shower. 75 cents gets me clean, but no time for lounging. Back to camp I wolf breakfast rolls, milk. Organize for J.L’s arrival, our take off. Hit store, call Mom, clear up travelers check problem.

Coffee in warm store. Back to camp, we cook two dozen eggs. Eat big time. Beers, we relax.  We lounge about the table, slowly packing.  Brothers Werner depart, I wash socks in Odell Lake. At store, I write, wait for J.L.

Three hours I’ve waited. I’m getting pretty jumpy to get to Canada, regardless of this hold up, which has me antsy. More ice cream and beer. Waiting never has been my strong suit. Well J.L. never showed. I sat at the Shelter Cove picnic table ‘til dark, talk with Cincinnati long distance. No one knew anything and Julie worried.

Cooked in encroaching darkness, crashed perplexed over my J.L. situation.
