Journey Day 102 | PCT Day 102
7/27/85
Up early, the ants have taken over my pack. They’re there for the first two hours of hiking. Hot, near 100 degrees as I hike hard through private ranch lands. Trees, manzanita and rocks. Cross roads of various types. Take extra break to cool feet.
Stop for agua near a Pacific Gas and Electric plant, fish hatchery and lakes. Take a break on a hill above the hatchery. Then, after finding the right trail, I hike on toward Burney Falls. Walk near the lake with view for what seems like a long time. Finally make Route 89, then up to entrance and store at Burney Falls. Jeff’s at phone. I blow Visa bucks in the store, then munch, hit shower. Such a wonderful sensation, but one day later I’ll be dirty again.
Dark as I finish wash in tubs. Talk with kids amazed, think I’m crazy to do the PCT. No Jeff at the table. Pay $1, get gear from entrance station. Pass Jeff on dark path. Neither of us can find the campground . I crash near the road, Jeff goes on mad over the poor directions. Poor sleep. Too hot…
