Up early, I organize gear to be kept and mailed. Then over to the store. Call First Need. They agree to take filter back through the mail. We’ll see how this turns out.

Take boxes to post office after massive digging job through mountains of gear, food. Brangus Café then down to Uncle Runts. Hitch from store.

Great burger meal. Hike off ahead of Jeff and Keith down to Cave Campground, out to Hat Creek Trail. Off too soon, I end up  hiking road. Jeff and Keith made same mistake, catch me as we make the Bridge Campground.

Take over table of car campers-picnic-fishermen. Talk, chug water, eat, out of near 100-degree temperatures. Again I hike off first after listening to David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.” Find road to trail. Tough switchbacking, rocky climb to rim. Have passed trail when Jeff calls out. We go back, decide it’s the trail. After break, we all hike on. Keith waiting at gate, it’s our 100th night.

Catch up to Jeff at spot, as dropping gear, realize I have no tent. Freak out! But nothing to do about it tonight. Dinner of candy. Check out skyline. Crash bummed.
