Journey Day 89 | PCT Day 89
7/14/85
From rock spot, late start after breakfast. Through forested ridges to Jackson Meadows Reservoir, then to the campground for lunch. Check out lake. Relax, do postcards. Then to tributary to wash socks.
Hike on, come across Jeff, resting in his mosquito net. Then on. Ridiculous climbing, circling, switchbacking leads down to parallel with Milton Creek. Jeff passes, I catch him again at stream near bridge. We talk Sierra Club, logging.
Pass cattle grazing after Jeff near meadow. They clanked away at my approach, breaking the silence. Jeff, Eric, an unpublished N.H. writer; appear. We talk. I head on to anticipated spot I never find. Find myself past it, apparently due to trail changes.
More hiking to water. I drop pack, uphill, walk back down. But agua bubbly, so on to the next spot. Get filled, then to spot where ants force me to pitch in the dark. Flashlight dies. But I survive. Hard to sleep in the heat. Rocks underneath. Finally asleep.
