Journey Day 84 | PCT Day 84

High above Echo Lake, California.

7/9/85

Up fairly early, I eat cheeseburger, etc. Call Mom who’s off to golf, so I make arrangements to call later. Three-hour time difference makes things difficult. Too early to call Sierra Designs, so back up to chalet, where I organize for departure.

Back down too soon, I hang around until time’s right. Twins show up, we talk, I get Sierra Designs hopefully taking care of catastrophe that’s been lingering since Malibu.

They come up to room, munch out. We all begin packing. Keith shows up. Jeff too. Says the post office to close at noon. We all begin rushing around. Head back down. Send stuff to Sandi, film to JL. No luck with stores on belt warranty. Must hope to get one in the mail before it becomes unbearable.

More munching, Keith and I distribute food. Buy supplements. Will carry more food this stretch.

Finally back on the trail, leaving bustle at my back. Hike along Echo Lake, pretty cottages. Pass several hikers going the other way. Then hike away from the lake, past more lakes. Stop, decide to camp at Susie Lake.

Jeff drops out short of destination. Keith stayed behind to walk alone. Make camp with bugs at Susie’s shore. Munch big time with good selection, then crash.
