Journey Day 428 | CDT Day 91
9/13/87
Up early, almost before daylight, we move quickly down Trail Creek along jeep roads. Pass camps of black-powder muzzleloaders, fishermen, as we descend through a belt of changing aspen to Seedhouse Campground. Making lunch on a table when Carl reveals plan to go to Steamboat from there to get his leg checked. Finagles ride and leaves us for sandwich lunch. We cook ours, talk with rangers about route options ahead, I about a book to read.
Finished, we hike uphill again, vehicles passing. Back into the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness, pass hikers coming as we climb to Gold Lake. Rain threatens, so shorten break, resume steep climb to the Divide. Excellent with high mountain views to Mts. Zirkel, Agnes, Hahn's Peak, the Never Summers. Cold hike along the Divide with great views! Come into view of Lost Ranger Peak, photo a couple descending whom I talk with at the trail junction. Cold and hunger get me situated in trees by a pond. Leonard and Laurie appear, we pitch and cook. During night, snow falls, dusting the ground and our tent.
