Journey Day 380 | CDT Day 43

I enjoyed a drink at headwaters of the Missouri at Sacajawea Camp dedicated through the efforts of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

7/26/87

A very wet arising near Pattee Creek, as dew had covered my tent, as they said it would. So I pack quickly, nothing to eat and off down the road. Uneventful forest walk, but for views of Lemhis, their foot. Eat peanut butter and bread for breakfast, then push on, stop once before final push.

With Lemhi Pass and road to Sacajawea Camp in site, I spot a spring below the trail and decide to stop there. Cowshit everywhere, but apparently safe spring water from hose.

Eating when others come, decide to go on, just as well with me. I update, fix toe, munch, enjoy spot despite lack of levelness. As I hike to the pass, I decide to go down anyway. Ditch pack, check out Lewis and Clark, etc. display, then hiking down when Bronco comes up and follows me into camp. I join others, enjoy drink at headwaters of the Missouri at Sacajawea Camp dedicated through the efforts of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Hike back up after privy visit.

Pausing at Lemhi Pass in 1987.

Group shot, then up again on the Divide. An up and down road until massive struggle up, a heel blister adding to the fun. Push up, but there's another and another... Good views in all directions. Make slow progress, talk with trucking couple. More climbing on the Divide, in and out of trees on a good jeep road.

Languorous, hot as I follow the others pushing to our site. Views occasionally until we drop down to site with spring. Cook pancakes despite Carl's bogart. Pitch, as cook cakes, eat. All done, into tent to get ready for town after long eventful time in the backcountry.
